Rest Day

Nutrition Tip #2

There are lots of different opinions out there on what constitutes a healthy diet. Depending on your goals, everyone seems to have a different plan of how you should approach it from a food perspective.

One thing, however, that most poeple agree on around food is that preparation is the key to success with any diet. Moreover, those who consider healthy eating to be part of their lifestyle and don’t consider it “dieting” anymore, are masters of food preparation.

You must have your tools ready to go before you start if you wish to be successful. In the case of healthy eating, this means having the fridge and pantry stocked, and meals prepared ahead of time.

Directive – Shop on Sunday for the entire week. Think about how much food you will need to get you through to the folllowing Sunday. Typically Sundays are a down day for many people (if this day falls on another day of the week for you then shift the days). Therefore, Sunday can be a relaxed day around eating and provide you the time to get things organized for a good week ahead.

Shopping – keep your pantry, freezer, and fridge stocked with quality meats, starches, veggies, and dairy. Shop the perimeter of the store and stay away from boxed, canned, or packaged stuff. Just buy as fresh as you can.

Preparation – Now the kitchen is armed with good ingredients, you are now going to prepare meals for the next 4 days. You need meals for Monday through Thursday. Think about making lunch and dinner food for 4 days and package it in tupperware. When Thursday comes around you will need to do a shorter prep session to make Friday and Saturdays meals. The Sunday/Thursday prep ritual is one that we have used in our family for years and has kept us lean, healthy, and has saved countless hours of our time to dedicate to other things we care about.
